Shani Jayanti

 

Shani Jayanti is marked as the birth anniversary of Lord Shani and the festival is celebrated in honor of Lord Shani Dev on the day of Jyeshtha Krishna paksha on Amavasya tithi and know as Shani Amavasya which is on 10th June 2021. Normally after listening to the name of Shani people come in fear and Lord Shani is the son of king Surya and even Surya dev was impacted with Shani Drishti.

Lord Shani Dev represents Planet Saturn and the brother of Lord Yama (Lord of death). Lord Shani dev has been given the duty to give results of good and bad deeds of people. 

Lord Shani (Saturn) on the Seventh position in the Navgraha, the nine Hindu astrology planets. Capricon and Aquarries are his zodiac signs, rules the Pushya, Anuradha, and Uttara Bhadrapada Nakshatras. He changes zodiac signs every 2.5 years, transits the zodiac every 30 years. The presiding God of Saturn is Lord Shiva. Also known as Shanidev, Ravinandana, and Shaneeswar

Story of Shani Jayanti 

Lord Shani dev is the son of Lord Surya and Devi chaya, the shadow wife of Lord Surya and Devi Saranyu. It was believed that Devi Saranyu could not bear the heat and brightness of Lord Surya and went for the penance of Lord Shiva leaving her shadow Chaya to take her place. As Shani dev was born during the time when Devi Chaya was in penance and meditating Lord Shiva, he was born dark and due to the dark complexion of Lord Shani, Lord Surya used to doubt over Devi chaya and used to insult her.

It is said that Lord Shani got fumed because of continuous insults by Lord Surya to his mother, and Lord Shani gave a cruel gaze and turned his father into black charcoal and turned skin into black charcoal. After that Lord Shiva healed Lord Surya and told the truth about Chaya and Lord Shani’s birth also. Lord Shiva blessed Lord Shani dev with divine powers and authorized to punish people for their wrong and evil deeds and that’s why Shani Jayanti is celebrated.

Importance and Significance of Shani Jayanti 

Lord Shani is the deity of planet Saturn and Saturn and considered to be the slowest moving planet as per celestial movements. It is believed that Shani Mahadasha is considered to be painful and those who have positioned in a weakened position in the birth chart are believed to be suffering a lot. 

One of the true facts is that planet Saturn is said the be the planet of Karma. It offers fruitful results and success to people who have done hard work in their life, struggle, penance,  with sincere efforts, and did good deeds in their life. So during Shani Sade Sate whether an individual face struggles or be blessed with success will depend on the deeds of a person in the past or present life.

• On this Day Special puja, ceremony and homas are been done at various Shani dev temples and Shani shingdapur of Pune and Nava Graha temples.
• Idols of Lord Shani dev, Shani Yantra, Shani kavach, or Shani Japa should be cleaned with water, panchamrit or gangajal 
• In order to Please Lord, along with fasting Shani Chalisa, Shani Mantra and Shani path and Shani stotra are recited for devotion and attain success in life.
• People observe fast on this day and feed animals, cows, and birds
• People visit the Shani dev temple and offer Oil and black teel seeds.
